Café de Paris - Monte-Carlo’s first café was originally called the Café Divan. It became the Café de Paris and went through many transformations until the art deco style triumphed in the 1930s. It immediately became a favourite haunt amongst Monaco’s smart set. One such client even made what one can only describe as a particularly spectacular entrance... Edouard Michelin lost control of his motor car one day and crashed into one of the café’s pillars! In 1988, the Café de Paris—magnificently renovated whilst retaining its Belle Époque exterior—celebrated its 120th anniversary and modernised gaming rooms covering some 13 000m. Out went the 1960s bowling alley... in came Black Jack, à la American Roulette, Craps, Royal Ascot, and 456 slot machines machines in a decor inspired by the various Historic Grand Prix. Sporting MC - In 1999, the Sporting Monte-Carlo was renovated in the most spectacular fashion. Restructured, decompartmentalised, futuristic yet remarkably refined, the astonishing infrastructure built in 1974 on the Larvotto Peninsula saw the end of its restricting obstacles and discovered new airy spaces, both attractive and complementary. In a luxurious yet convivial ambience, people come here to gamble, to enjoy an excellent meal, to relax in the Cuban Smoking Parlour, to dance until dawn in Jimmy’z night-club, or to applaud the stars of international showbiz in the Salle des Etoiles. The sea-view Salle des Palmiers is enjoying its second youth, proposing American and European games and private gaming rooms. As for the slot machines, they are accessible to everyone, and the summery ambience adds to the pleasure of playing.
